Halal Products
Dear our blogworms, do you know what is Halal? This word have been used widely all over the world especially in Muslim
countries such as Malaysia. Everyone, either Muslims or non Muslims in our
country is very familiar with this word. However, what is the exact meaning of Halal?
Halal is an Arabic word meaning lawful or permitted. On the other hand,
the antonym of Halal is Haram, which means unlawful or prohibited. Halal and Haram are terms that allow Muslims to differentiate whether the products are
legal consumable.
In this post, we would like to specifically
describe Halal in reference to food only. In Islam, there are few precautions
and procedures for food to fulfill the Halal terms. This reflects the beauty of Islam. There are many reasons why Islam prohibit certain food and provide a guideline in slaughtering, cooking and others. For example, an animal or poultry has to be slaughtered which in
science, it is proved that slaughtered meat last longer and not easily spoiled
as compared to unslaughtered animals or dead carcasses.
Food that cause damage
and harms to human are also prohibited in Islam such as alcohol. Alcohol that
cause intoxication when ingested are Haram while non- intoxication alcohol is
allowed. Throughout the industry, Halal requirements must be complied to at all stages of the production and supply chain which are procurement of raw materials and ingredients, packaging, processing, labeling and transporting.
Halal status of a raw or processed food rely on the fatwa in order to determine whether a product are acceptable by Syariah standards. Fatwa is a scholarly opinion on a matter of Islamic law and also a guideline on understanding how subtleties of Islamic law should be interpreted or applied especially in food industries.
Blogworms, please relax your eyebrows. We can
see thousands of wrinkles on your forehead. Are you thinking what we are
thinking? You must be wondering how to differentiate halal food in a processed
food?
To meet all requirements, Muslim should have an advanced knowledge in
science and Islam before buying or consuming any products. Therefore, there are big questions of ambiguity regarding the product's Halal status. But what if some
individual that have less knowledge in this area? They must find it hard and inconvenience as they have limited knowledge regarding these issues. Will they buy without
checking?
Don’t worry, my dear blogworms, we live in the era of globalization
where science and technology develops in a blink of eye. Gladly,
some individuals or companies have taken a very good initiatives to create many
mobile applications for our convenience and to ease our life especially
muslims. For example, Halal E- Numbers is an application that are very convenience
for muslims in order to identify which food products are halal.
